Calcot wishes to extend our deepest condolences to the families of Bob Norris and Tom Smith, who passed away recently.
Robert W (Bob) Norris, Calcot’s CEO from 2004-2009, died unexpectedly on October 27, 2023. He was 80. Prior to becoming CEO, Bob served in several roles at his 40 year career at Calcot including Executive Vice President and was Vice President of Operations for over 15 years. During his tenure at Calcot, Bob served several years as a cooperative delegate and board member to the National Cotton Council, and was also a long serving board member to Amcot. Bob was a California native, served in the US Army and was a graduate of Fresno State University. After his retirement from Calcot, Bob continued to serve agriculture as a board member for Pandol Brothers Inc., a family owned grape producer based in Delano, CA.
Thomas W (Tom) Smith died on December 1, 2023 after a brief illness at the age of 88. Tom served as Calcot’s CEO from 1977 until his retirement in 2002, and spent his entire working career at Calcot after graduating Texas A&M University in 1957. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Zachary), who was a former Bakersfield City Councilwoman. During Tom’s tenure at Calcot, he served in leadership positions with several industry organizations including Cotton Council International, The New York Cotton Exchange, and served on the board and as president of the National Cotton Council. Tom was very influential in politics; both in California and nationally. He was appointed by two US Secretaries of Agriculture to serve on the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade, and worked behind the scenes on numerous farm bills to serve the interests of American cotton growers.
